It's Not Just His Age.
8 Reasons It's His Bed.

He gets up slower than he used to, and you've put it down to age. Some of that is age. The rest is the bed. Press it in the middle, where he sleeps. If your fingers reach the bottom, so do his hips, and they have every night since it went flat. That's his mattress.

You bought a bed. He's been sleeping on a cover.

Put a towel on the kitchen floor and lie down for an hour. Your hip finds the tiles anyway, and you'd quit before the hour was up. His bed is the towel.

The cover is fine. The filling under it went flat years ago, so his weight lands on his hips and shoulders. He turns over, finds a spot that isn't as hard, and stays there twelve to fourteen hours a day.

He'll do it again tonight. On whatever you put down.

She sees this before you do.

The pause before he stands, the long stretch, the first few steps slower than the rest. On your dog it just looks like age. Your vet sees the same three things on a different dog all day.

“A lot of dogs come to us with stiffness, joint pain and early signs of arthritis. That's why I recommend the Dog Friendly Co. bed. The egg-crate foam takes the pressure off their joints, so they actually rest.”

The front half is ready. The back half isn't.

He pushes down to get up. The bed sinks under him, then slides on the tile, and his paws go with it. You watch it from the doorway. There's nothing you can do from there, and after a few tries he gives up.

Ours doesn't sink and it doesn't slide. He gets something to push against.

04

His whole bed is one layer of soft foam.

And it's the soft one. Soft foam flattens.

Ours has three. The top looks like an egg carton, so his hips, shoulders and elbows rest on dozens of soft bumps instead of pressing into one hard spot. Under that, a firmer layer that holds him up, and a hard base that keeps him off the floor.

Only the top is soft. The two under it stay firm, so it doesn't go flat. Not in ten years.

05

You wouldn't sleep in his bed.

Spill something on the sofa and wiping the cover doesn't help. It went into the cushion.

Same with his bed. Years of drool and dirt soaked through the cover and into the foam, and foam doesn't go in the wash.

Ours has a waterproof liner under the cover. Nothing gets to the foam. Wash the cover and it's a clean bed again.

06

It's not just this bed. It's every one you've bought.

You've done this before. Maybe twice. You stood in the aisle squeezing them through the plastic, and carried it home thinking you'd finally sorted it.

If ours flattens in the next ten years, we send you a new one. You're never going back to that aisle.

07

Nobody has to tell you what's in his bed.

You took your time over your own mattress. You read about the foam, you lay on it in the shop. His came folded in a bag.

Some dog beds have flame retardants in the foam. His might, and the tag won't say. He's face down in it for half the day.

Ours is CertiPUR-US certified, the same test they use on human mattresses. He isn't a pet, he's family. You can't do anything about his age, but you can do this.

08

Watch where he sleeps for 60 nights.

You don't have to take our word for any of this.

Some dogs take a few nights to switch. Take the full 60, and if he never does, you get every penny back.

Put it down next to the old one. Nobody tells him where to lie, so watch where he goes.
